2010 Trends Charity
Each year we are honoured to make a contribution to a local charity. This year NAIOP presented a check for $1,000.00 to Lyndsay House.
Transitional Living Centers is a Tulsa, Okla.-based nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide housing and wrap-around services to vulnerable Oklahoma families.
Their first project was Lindsey House, a vintage apartment building in downtown Tulsa. It is home to single women caring for children. Many of the women fell on hard financial times because of a job layoff, divorce, injury or serious illness. Because of such a sudden situation, they find themselves unable to pay rent and are quickly evicted from their homes. Many spend the night in their cars, sleep on the floor in friends’ homes and end up in emergency homeless shelters.
When they’re ready to learn budgeting, family management, job search and general life skills, they can apply to Lindsey House. At Lindsey House, they and their children will be provided a furnished apartment and services to help them regain financial independence. Lindsey House staff interviews applicants and accepts families based on a thorough assessment of their situation, their desire to overcome homelessness, and their overall ability to complete a rigorous program.
